And while I am thoroughly enjoying Diablo 4, roving around being a completionist, I can safely say - for the first time, I not only have zero desire to purchase anything from the in-game shop, I actively think that the transmogs are terrible. Make no mistake, I'm not adverse to spending money in a game I enjoy - I own every mount, pet, toy, and transmog from the WoW shop, and have spent what could be considered an embarrassing amount of money on cosmetics over the years in games where I want to support the developers for a job well done. What we've seen so far, however, has not been up to Blizzard standards. It doesn't matter how iconic a Shako is - that look isn't good on anyone. Imagine my excitement, then, when Diablo 4 announced not only a transmog system, but also a shop that would provide nothing but cosmetics - I could actually look the way I wanted to in a franchise that I loved instead of being restricted to whatever a particular item happened to look like. Playing dress up was a huge part of growing up for me, and in a way that never really stopped - it just moved to a digital state with games instead of dolls and costume boxes.īlizzard games have always scratched that collecting itch, with transmog in World of Warcraft being one of the best examples I could ask for. Discover something like a rare ingredient to make a new hair dye? Bliss. My little pack rat soul is happiest when I can collect all the things, and I'm even more overjoyed when I can then use those things to change my character's appearance. I spend an insane amount of time finding one of everything when I play games - whether that's pets, mounts, toys, achievements, or appearances, it doesn't matter to me.
